CCSD Students Advance to Statewide STEM Contest

Cherokee County School District middle schoolers are advancing to a state STEM skills competition!

The annual Georgia Association of Water Professionals’ Model Water Tower Competition, sponsored for CCSD by the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority (CCWSA), gives seventh-graders the opportunity to plan, design and build a water tower.  

CCSD’s top two entries headed to the state competition next month are: district first-place winners, Kendyl Kell, Aubrey Quinn, and Lynlee Wells of Dean Rusk MS for “Starry Night,” $300 prize, STEM teacher Teresa Hutto; and second-place winner, Elizabeth Stringer of Woodstock MS for “Team Snoopy,” $200 prize, STEM teacher Joi Marques.  

Congratulations to our winners and their teacher coaches!  Our School Board is laser focused on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else.

Third-place honors went to the team of Lorelai Clark and Emily Kalata of Freedom MS for “Otterly Awesome Tower,” $100 prize, STEM teacher Edwin Rodriguez.

Other honors recognized specific achievement and received $25 prizes:
Best Engineering Design: Foster Southern, Gabrielle Williams and Logan Woods of Woodstock MS for “Rapunzel Tower;”
Excellence in Structural Efficiency: Baylor Loe of Creekland MS for “Dum Dum;”
Best Artistic Design: Tony Leo, Aidan Reid, and Ezequiel Vidales of Teasley MS for “Statue of Liberty;”
Excellence in Presentation: Sadie Kunzman and Austen Lowman of E.T. Booth MS for “Cotton Candy;”
Cost Effectiveness: Melanie Ku and Cora Maselli of Mill Creek MS for “Up;” and,
Thinking Outside the Box: Fiona Callanan, Ryleigh Cummings, and Allison Guerra of Teasley MS for “Big Ben.”
